E332 - POLITICAL PLAYBOOK | CVA ENTERS ELECTION FRAY WITH ENDORSEMENT | REGWATCH (LIVE)
Wednesday Oct 14, 2020
Wednesday Oct 14, 2020
It’s hard to come to terms with the fact that the war on vaping is political. No matter the fealty public health swears to science, it is perfectly clear political dogma now rules the day when it comes to vaping.
The prospect of wading into politics in order to save vaping is anathema to many vapers and the associations that represent vaping interests. But the time for trepidation may now be over as the Canadian Vaping Association announces its endorsement of the New Democratic Party of British Columbia, in the upcoming provincial election.
Joining us today on RegWatch is Darryl Tempest, CVA’s Executive Director and Lead Advocate. Hear the reasoning behind CVA’s unprecedented move and learn how the strategy could be rolled out in support of other parties and candidates in provinces where vaping is also under threat.

*Guest: Dr. Derek Yach, President of Foundation for a Smoke-Free World
Despite touting a desire to change, a new report shows tobacco companies have made little progress in reducing the harm of combustible tobacco.
According to the recently released Tobacco Transformation Index, from 2017 to 2019 the world’s 15 largest tobacco companies achieved only a marginal decline in cigarette sales while continuing marketing practices that focus on boosting high-risk product sales.
In this episode of RegWatch we are joined by Dr. Derek Yach, President of the Foundation for a Smoke-Free World to discuss the results of the Tobacco Transformation Index and how this first-of-its-kind measure could help large institutional investors pressure tobacco companies into taking substantial action to mitigate the world’s smoking burden.
Are tobacco companies living up to their commitments to reduce harm? And, is the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control helping or hurting the effort?

E330 - SCIENTISTS SAY SO | MARC MORANO ON CLIMATE CHANGE, COVID LOCKSTEP | REGWATCH
Saturday Oct 03, 2020
Saturday Oct 03, 2020
It’s not a dystopian prediction of the future, but the present. Unelected health bureaucrats and radical climate change activists aligned in a diabolical effort to exploit the Coronavirus lockdowns; the greatest advancement of state power in the history of mankind.
Climate change and COVID-19 are inextricably linked as they both share the same solution: total control of the masses by expert fiat. Only they know what’s good for you, the planet, and the common good. You must listen because scientists say so!
Joining us today to talk about this and more (yes vaping) is Marc Morano, the world’s number one climate contrarian, a dogged opponent of hysterical science, and denier of the prophecies of climate doom.
Hear about his just-released film “Climate Hustle 2: Rise of the Climate Monarchy” and learn why he thinks you can no longer talk about climate without talking about COVID.

E329 - STRESS TEST | IS UK’S ENTHUSIASM FOR VAPING ON THE WANE? | REGWATCH (LIVE)
Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
Wednesday Sep 30, 2020
Stoptober is back: The UK’s annual challenge to quit smoking in the month of October. According to the NHS if a smoker can stay quit for 28-days then it is 5 times more likely the person quits for good. Those are great odds. But what about how a smoker chooses to quit, does that improve the odds of success?
For years UK government health organizations have been leading voices in support of vaping as a tool for tobacco harm reduction. Yet the UK is not immune to the massive worldwide campaign of misinformation intended to discredit and destroy vaping as a viable alternative to smoking.
In this episode of RegWatch we are joined by tobacco harm reduction advocate and clinical consultant Louise Ross to discuss realities on the ground in the UK effort to stamp out smoking. Are e-cigarettes being promoted at NHS Stop Smoking Services centers? What is the current UK public perception of vaping? And, how might the demise of Public Health England affect the outcome of the war on vaping?

The time for appeasement is over, says Michael Scott, the trial lawyer who filed a constitutional challenge to Nova Scotia’s arbitrary and pernicious vaping product laws.
Over the past year, Nova Scotia enacted new regulations that ban the sale of flavoured e-liquids and prohibit instore product testing. And most egregiously, the Liberal-led provincial government instituted a new vaping consumption tax that makes smoking more financially viable than vaping.
The legal challenge argues that Nova Scotia’s vaping restrictions infringe on the “right to security of the person” under Section 7 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, and builds upon the precedents established in the Canadian Vaping Association’s victory against the Quebec provincial government (which the province is currently appealing.)
In this episode of RegWatch we are joined by lawyer Michael Scott to discuss the specifics of the legal challenge and by plaintiffs Ryan Landry and Bill MacEachern, co-owners of Cloud Factory Vape Shop in Nova Scotia, who explain the devastating impact of the new regulations.

Thursday Sep 17, 2020
Thursday Sep 17, 2020
With the implementation this week of Nova Scotia’s new vaping product tax it’s become clear the province is determined to destroy the industry, forcing thousands of vapers back to smoking.
The new tax is not only draconian but cruel as the end result is that smoking in the province of Nova Scotia is now more financially viable than vaping.
In this episode of RegWatch, Nova Scotia vape shop owner Margaret Preston walks viewers through the new tax and shares correspondence with government compliance officers as she seeks clarification in her struggle to keep her business afloat.

*Guest: Sam Tam, President of the Canada Vaping Association - In July, when the B.C. provincial government enacted new rules and regulations governing the sale of vaping products in the province, it gave retailers until September 15 to sell off non-compliant product and adjust inventories to meet the new B.C. (specific) packaging and device specifications.
With the deadline only days away, the industry is waiting for the B.C. provincial government to provide critical clarifications that promise to ease compliance burdens and to harmonize the new rules with existing federal government regulations under the TVPA.
In this episode of RegWatch, we are joined by Sam Tam, President of the Canadian Vaping Association to discuss what the industry needs in order to navigate the new regulatory environment and to learn what critical clarifications the province has indicated it might deliver before the deadline.
