STRUGGLE TO FUNCTION | FDA Tobacco Program Panned by Expert Panel | RegWatch
Tuesday Dec 20, 2022
Tuesday Dec 20, 2022
On Monday, the Reagan-Udall Foundation released its report evaluating the FDA’s tobacco program, and its findings are remarkable, if not shocking. The expert panel cited numerous examples where the agency lacked sufficient strategic planning, useful and timely guidance, and internal leadership on critical issues, such as finding a balance between science and policy.
The Reagan-Udall panel goes as far as to say that FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products has “struggled to function as a regulator in part due to its own policy choices.”
Joining us today to discuss the report is Tony Abboud, Executive Director of the Vapor Technology Association.

HIJACKED | FDA Approval Process in Shambles | RegWatch
Wednesday Dec 14, 2022
Wednesday Dec 14, 2022
It’s blatant, and some think shameful, the degree to which political interference and anti-vaping ideology have hijacked the FDA’s approval process for nicotine vaping products. Recent comments released by the Reagan-Udall Foundation in its review of the FDA and its Center for Tobacco Products prove as much.
Joining us today is Tony Abboud, the Executive Director at the Vapor Technology Association. We take a deep dive into the problems at FDA and CTP. We discuss the industry’s court challenge to California’s flavor ban and its economic impact. And we learn about VTA’s recommendation for dealing with the flood of disposables on the market.

HIGH CERTAINTY | Nicotine Vapes More Effective to Help Smokers Quit | RegWatch
Wednesday Nov 23, 2022
Wednesday Nov 23, 2022
Are e-cigarettes effective in helping smokers to quit? It’s one of the most hotly contested questions in the battle over vaping, but an answer may finally be in hand. According to the latest Cochrane Review of Electronic Cigarettes for Smoking Cessation, there is “high-certainty evidence” that nicotine vapes are more effective than traditional nicotine replacement therapies, such as nicotine patches and gum, in helping people to quit smoking.
Dr. Jamie Hartmann-Boyce, associate professor at the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and editor at Cochrane Tobacco Review Group, is joining us today to discuss the new evidence.

UNHINGED | Public Health’s Manufactured Crisis Over Vaping | RegWatch
Friday Nov 18, 2022
Friday Nov 18, 2022
Public health’s insufferable war on vaping continues its path of destruction for U.S. consumers of nicotine vaping products. Fueled by the moral panic over teen vaping, voters in California passed a statewide flavor ban that’s certain to force some vapers back to smoking while denying current smokers easy access to safer nicotine products which could save lives.
Charles Gardner, executive director of INNCO, joins us to discuss the impact of the California flavor ban, the CDC’s deliberate exaggeration of youth vaping rates, and the shocking revelations from the Reagan-Udall Foundation’s review of the FDA’s PMTA decision-making process.

HOT MESS | Clive Bates on FDA, EVALI & Youth Vaping Stats | RegWatch
Thursday Oct 20, 2022
Thursday Oct 20, 2022
The War on Vaping continues unabated, as the U.S. Centers for Disease Control states in a group call with anti-vaping lobbyists that the teen vaping “epidemic” is NOT over. And the FDA digs in, refusing to set the record straight with the American public over the perceived risks and harms of vaping.
Regulators and government have created a “chaotic hot mess” in the U.S., says Clive Bates, tobacco control policy expert and former Director of Action on Smoking and Health (UK), in today’s episode of RegWatch. Hear Bates break down the 2022 NYTS youth vaping stats, his call for the CDC to stop its dishonest spin of youth vaping data, and his assessment of the FDA’s failed “authorization regime.”
